Do you have a dream? A dream that gives your life meaning? Maybe you have a dream that excites you so much that it keeps you up at night. What is that dream that you have in the back of your mind, but haven’t quite had the courage to start pursuing?
What’s holding you back? Maybe its fear of failure... words of doubt. Or are you just waiting until the perfect time? Maybe when the kids are a little bit older… Perhaps when your schedule slows down… Or when you have more money saved…
I want to encourage you to stop putting off your dream.
When our daughter, Aggie, was two, she would wake up early in the morning, like before the rooster crows, kind of early. Ready to take on the world. Fearless. Bold. Full of Life. Aggie was on a mission. She was a force to be reckoned with. That spunky, blonde haired toddler had a favorite saying that her Daddy taught her, “Carpe Diem! Seize the Day!” A little toe head with a raspy voice would climb up in our bed before 6 am each morning and boldly announce, “Carpe Diem!”
Friends.... I want you to seize the day!
We only have one life to live. One shot on this earth. Our life is but a vapor, so let’s stop putting off until tomorrow, what we should do today.
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14
Choose to pursue your dream today. Right now. Carve out time each week (even if it’s only an hour a week) to make steps closer to that dream that ignites your soul.
But, what if you’re like me? What if you aren’t a dreamer?
Years ago, I attended a conference and the topic was about following your dream. I remember feeling inadequate as I left. There must be something wrong with me. I’m not a dreamer. I’m not a visionary. Maybe these callings aren’t for everyone, but just for a special few. All of these were thoughts that ran through my mind.
Those thoughts begged the question, “Does everyone’s life have a purpose? Does everyone have a God sized call?”
You have been set apart as holy to the LORD your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure. Deuteronomy 14:2
You have been set apart for a special purpose. Each one of us has a call on our lives, a God sized call. This call is unique and is for you and you alone. Your call may not look like your neighbor’s and that’s ok. This is your own personal call and it’s one of importance.
How do we find this call of ours?
It starts with having a listening ear. By spending undistracted time in God’s word daily. Just you and God. By having a humble heart and open ears, the Lord will reveal his plan for you. When you hear his voice, take the next steps. One step at a time. One act of obedience at a time.
Before you know it, these simple steps of obedience will turn into a full blown journey…your life’s purpose. We may not understand what He is doing at the moment, but taking those steps, each day, will lead you down your path of purpose.
BUT FIRST…Spend time with Him.
“My Sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
It’s like any other relationship, the more you spend time with the Lord, the better you get to know him. As you grow in your relationship with Jesus, you will recognize His voice more.
What if it's too late?
Let’s not forget those of you who know your call but feel like you’ve blown it. Discouraged and Dejected. You feel as though you have wasted your life. It's too late.
Friend, those are lies straight from the pit of Hell. The enemy wants to derail you. He knows that if you follow your call, you will impact eternity. He wants to keep you from pursuing your purpose and whispers lies in your ears, reminding you of past failures and mistakes. Combat those lies…speak truth to your heart. The heart is deceitful...it cannot be trusted.
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9
You have to choose the truth, the truth of God’s word over the lies your heart is inclined to believe. If you have breath in your lungs, you have a purpose. It’s not too late. We have all made mistakes. You are not beyond repair. God will redeem our past if we let Him.
You are chosen. You are set apart.
Nothing in this world will fulfill you and give your life meaning like a relationship with Jesus. Turn off the lies, shut out the enemy, and fulfill your call.
One step of obedience at a time.
Carpe diem, friends!
